This year, Auza.Net staff and management decided to forego its annual Christmas party and instead donated the budget for the party to the Bohol Sunshine Home Foundation, Inc. On November 30, 2013, the Auza.Net employees visited the home and formally turnover donations of about Php21,700: Php10,000 from Auza.Net employees and management, Php4,000 from the donations for earthquake relief, and Php7,700 from friends in the UK.
The company also gave the children gifts (instead of exchanging gifts, we gave it all to them). We had asked from the staff of the home what they need and most of them needed clothes for school, shoes, underwear and slippers.
Then we had simple snacks of siopao, empanada, lots of candies and chocolates and juice. The kids had a blast. Some of them didn’t know what chocolates were and took a while for them to realize they were delicious!
We hope that our simple activity will help the home get donations. It needs about Php76,000 per month to run the center for food and other basic needs, utilities, salaries for its employees and sometimes medical expenses (we saw today one kid with a bad burn on her foot).
The home is funded solely by donations, mostly from local individuals, companies and government agencies. After the October 15 earthquake and typhoon Yolanda on November 8, donations are hard to come by. The Catholic Women’s League, the sponsor of the home, needs help in raising funds to see these kids through this tough stage in their lives after losing their parents in one way or another.
The donations we turned over today will only last for less than two weeks. The home badly needs financial help now.
The orphanage needs 76,000 pesos (approximately $1800) each month to operate. It is funded completely from donations.
