The island of Bohol normally gets its power from geothermal plants in Leyte. Unfortunately, Leyte was hit hardest by Super Typhoon Yolanda. The latest news is that scheduled rolling blackouts (known as brownouts in the Philippines) are leaving the provincial capital of Tagbilaran with power for about 2 hours per day.
The rest of Bohol has been told to expect a complete blackout for up to 45 days.
Meanwhile, telecommunications companies are also experiencing widespread outages.
We are currently coordinating resumption of relief efforts in the face of this. It is our intention to continue pushing for donations in view of this awful development. Please help us provide support to our campaigners.
They need your help more than ever!
